Classes and Education
Mind-Body Training-Neuromuscular Edu.-6 Sessions (Santa Cruz)
This class meets for one hour each week for 6 weeks and is taught by a Certified Hanna Somatic Educator. The class teaches principles of somatic education to increase the body's freedom of movement, grace and comfort. This class is especially good for those with chronic pain, stiff joints, poor posture or repetitive stress injuries.
Participants learn a series of movement patterns that build upon one another, lengthening muscles around the somatic center ("the core"), and culminating in the final class which is Efficient Walking. The instructor gives verbal instruction, allowing participants time to process and try the movements and then provides individual help as needed so that movements are effective. The instructor typically brings a skeleton/anatomy book to class and provides an overview of what will be learned in each session. Students receive a handout with a recommended daily routine and occasional topical handouts. Participants learn how awareness, clarity in movement, and repetition are the keys to success!
Dress comfortably, and bring a yoga mat or large towel to class.
Optional class material: CD recorded by the instructor which delivers a recommended daily 15-minute somatic movement program, fee is $20.
