Classes and Education

This one hour class is strongly recommended by our obstetricians for couples to take prior to their first OB appointment. If your partner is unable to attend, you may bring your back up birth partner. Our Midwives will answer many of the common questions you may have as a first-time mother.

• There will be a Department Overview
• How to calculate your due date
• Normal schedule of prenatal care
• Discussion of prenatal testing options
• Dealing with nausea and other common first trimester discomforts
• Diet and exercise
• Things to Avoid
• Pregnancy resources (including a list of prenatal classes)

At this visit they will hand out the spiral bound notebook "Healthy Pregnancy and Preparing for Childbirth" and go over some of the information using the book. This book will also be used in your Childbirth Preparation Class. You will want to register for the Childbirth Preparation Class by your fourth month of pregnancy.
