    Sleep and Mindfulness: Are Your Thoughts Keeping You Awake?

    As human beings, our cognitive experience can become very dominant. Thoughts are easily triggered by the stimulation we are exposed to throughout our waking life. Moreover, it is not uncommon for these thoughts to interfere with sleep. In this presentation, we will take a look at the tendency for our thoughts to become out of balance in a negative direction, initiating cycles of unnecessary worries, planning and judgments. (This phenomenon is referred to as having distorted thoughts.) We will become more familiar with common distorted thought patterns and explore ways we may balance those thoughts to bring ourselves out of stress reactivity. Learning these skills may assist you in working with your thoughts in a manner that helps you fall asleep when your thoughts are keeping you up at night!
