Question

Why do teens compare their body weight to the weight of others?

Submitted on 06/10/04 at 03:48:12

Answer

Teens and adults compare themselves to others because we live in a culture that constantly bombards us with images of what is cute, successful, sexy, and acceptable.

It is very hard to become conscious about the pressure to look or be a particular way, and to begin to identify your own standard of beauty. There are some great sites to help - like Body Positive and New Moon Magazine.

Good luck.
