    Question

My best friend moved away in 3rd grade to Maryland. When she came back for sixth grade, I moved to another city. When I see my friends they say bad things about my B.F. When I confronted my best friend about it, she started to BRAG about smoking pot all the time. What should I do?

    Answer

Dear friend of b.f., It sounds like an old best friend of yours has changed, you've heard things through your friends about her that are negative, and when you looked into it you were surprised your old best friend didn't see things the same as you do now, such as smoking pot being negative. It's hard to know what she's experienced in the years you two were apart, and getting to know each other again may take awhile. You won't be picking up where you left off when you were much younger. She'll probably be more defensive and less likely to want to be friends if confronted directly; and she may need help to turn things around. The most important thing is to stay true to your values, those you know to be positive and healthy and that you can share with family and other friends. Good luck.
