Question
My parents had been married for 23 years, but in September I found out my dad was gay. Since then he has moved out and lives with his boyfriend. I have so much confusion. I have been raised in a Christian home and now all of this. It just hurts. I don't know of anyone else in the same situation as I am in. I need someone to talk to. Is there anyone who can relate.
Answer
It is hard to accept what has happened with your Dad and your confusion is very understandable. Just know that there are many others in the same situation you are even if you don't know any right now. You do need someone to talk with and a good Web site to visit is PFLAG (Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians & Gays). This is a well respected national group that works with family members who are struggling with finding out that their family member is gay and how to cope with their feelings. You can get lots of information off this website to help you understand sexual preference. There are counselors who are trained to deal with this issue in families. Tell your Mom and Dad you need someone to talk with and maybe they will be able to participate as well.
