Question
Would taking the pill while pregnant result in a miscarriage? My doctor never did a pregnancy test on me before prescribing the pill for the first time. I was pregnant and didn't know. I miscarried about 12 weeks after starting the pill.
Answer
Taking the pill should not cause a miscarriage. Your miscarriage was most likely a coincidence and should not be blamed on taking oral contraceptive pills. Miscarriages are very common -- in fact 1 out of 5 pregnancies end in a miscarriage, the most common reason being chromosome abnormalities. Having a miscarriage does not mean that your future pregnancies will end in the same way either. Many people have 1 or 2 miscarriages in their lifetime and end up having successful pregnancies without difficulties.
