Question
When taking Accutane, why does it make your acne worse before it gets better?
Answer
We think this is due to two mechanisms. First, usually the acne worsens during the period between the time that other acne medications are stopped and the time before Accutane starts to work. Second, an altered cutaneous barrier function develops which leads to increased inflammation of the skin.
