    Question

When I was 12, I felt as though I was in love with a boy named James I am still in that "I am in love " position and I don't think it's puppy love. I've been going out with him for 2 years and I feel the same way I did when I was 12. Can 14-year-old girls be in love? Am I in love?

    Answer

Yes, you can be in love, and if you feel like you float above the air, are happy when with this person, and the two of you support each other, cannot spend enough time together, make plans for the future, and are distracted with happy thoughts, then yes, you are in love.

Here is the catch though -- love should be healthy for both people and not harm either one, which can be tricky. Your body is still growing and it is important to value this emotional love, and postpone the physical intimacy until you are older. I know that is not what you asked, but I want to make sure you read my answer as "being in love" not being sexual. Sorry -- it is a mom thing.
