    Question

I forgot to take my antibiotics and missed the last three days. I am experiencing the runny nose and cough again. Should I start taking the remaining antibiotics?

    Answer

You don't mention why you are taking antibiotics, but you should always finish all of the antibiotics that your doctor prescribed. Not finishing a full course of antibiotics may result in only partial treatment of your illness or may lead to antibiotic resistance (which means that certain antibiotics are not effective in killing certain bacteria).

Using antibiotics for viral illnesses can also lead to antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics are used only for a bacterial illness such as Strep throat, ear infection, pneumonia or bronchitis. They are not effective against viral illnesses such as the flu or the common cold. You should see your doctor before starting any more antibiotics. I hope that you feel better soon!
