    Question

    What are the symptoms Endometriosis?

    Answer

Endometriosis is attachment of uterine internal lining cells to places OTHER than the lining. This tissue, called the endometrium, is shed during menstruation. Less commonly bits of tissue can migrate out the ends of the fallopian tube and attach to the bowel, colon, or other parts of the abdominal cavity. These cells can still respond to the hormone monthly variations, growing and causing pain (cramping, bloating).

Endometriosis is usually diagnosed by laparoscopy (a fiber optic tube placed thru the navel). The misplaced cells can be scraped or burned off. Endometriosis is rarely diagnosed in teens since it usually takes years of menstrual cycles to accumulate.
