    Question

Do I need a parent to go to a gyno to have a general check up?

    Answer

In California, the answer is no. But in New York, you can call your local Planned Parenthood and ask. I assume that you will not need permission, however, if you do not want your parents to know you are seeing the doctor, you should know how your clinic and health insurance works. First, will the clinic leave a message at home saying "x" you have an appointment tomorrow at 4 PM with Dr. Z in OB/Gyn? Second, if the company sends a list of charges paid to your parents, they could find out that way. So, we usually suggest that you visit a local Planned Parenthood for confidential services.

By the way, I usually recommend that you do talk to your parents or another adult -- we can usually help. Good luck.
