Question
I have about 4 or 5 moles on my scrotum and 2 or 3 on my penis. I keep getting more and more of them. What is this a result of? Is this dangerous? None of the ones I have are getting any bigger or changing color but I'm just getting new ones all the time.
Answer
It would be unusual to keep getting new moles at your age, so you need to think about other things that this could be. You could be getting genital warts, which can sometimes look like moles. These are not dangerous, but can be sexually transmitted. If they are untreated in women, they can cause cervical cancer. Therefore, it would be important for you to have this checked out by a dermatologist. If genital warts are confirmed and you are sexually active, you will need to inform your sexual partners so that they can be checked. Until you are sure of the diagnosis, it would be best to use a condom during intercourse to prevent transmission of the wart virus to your partner. There are also some spots that are not sexually transmitted that can also look like warts, so again, your best bet is to see a dermatologist about this.
