    Question

I would like to know if having hemorrhoids due to constipation, means that there will always be a pre-disposition to them for the future, after the constipation has cleared?

    Answer

Hello, Usually, hemorrhoids come and go and certain conditions may increase the risk of them, i.e. pregnancy in women. Also, if a person has a tendency towards firm stools or eats a diet that promotes firm stools (such as one low in fiber and whole grains, fruits and vegetables), they may be predisposed to hemorrhoids. To help clear them up, it is important to soften the stools, initially through dietary means, or if necessary by stool softeners temporarily. Some over the counter preparations and pads can help decrease the swelling and pain as well. Please see your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
