Question
My 16 year old suffers diabetes and bi-polar. She started a new school this fall and has refused to go the past 3 days. I have contacted her psych and counselor and have appointments with both. Do I force her or let it ride for now until after seeing both professionals?
Answer
This is the kind of situation where you need to get assert yourself and get in contact with her psych and counselor for at least a quick phone consultation on this question. Sometimes a kid will be totally overwhelmed if you push them to do something they cannot handle. Other times it is just hard to get started and having them give it a try for half a day or certain selected hours is all it takes to get back in the routine. If you can't get help trust your own gut reaction.
Good Luck!!!
