    Question

I am bisexual and have been practicing anal sex for some time now. The problem comes in that I appear to have a cut on the perimeter of my anus. It's not too sore but I can feel a slight bit of pain whenever I have bowel movements. I have no STD's or STI's and I'm in perfect health. I think this may have happened when a sharp fingernail cut me. Do I let it heal by itself? Do I need to see a doctor?

    Answer

It would definitely be best if you saw your physician. Anal fissures (tears in the skin), anal abscesses (infection in a closed space), anal fistulas (chronic connection between two separate spaces usually resulting from an abscess not adequately treated) can all present in a similar manner. It is important to have an accurate diagnosis so you are able to be treated appropriately. Often these are much less painful than would be expected and so are ignored. Again I strongly advise an evaluation by your physician.
