Question
Hi I started my period at age 13 and it stopped in Oct.06. I haven't had my period for almost 3 months now. Is there something wrong I should worry about? I'm now at age 15, small and skinny, 78lbs. I am not sexually active.
Answer
You probably are just having irregularity of your periods b/c you don't weigh enough. For each person, there is a certain 'threshold' weight and percent body fat, that you need to be/have to maintain your period. Remember - the menstrual cycle is the cycle your body goes through to prepare an egg for fertilization. If your body is underweight, it may perceive the environment as not appropriate for this, and so, you don't have a period.
I would not worry too much about this, right now. You have time for your period to normalize. If you are concerned that you are underweight, talk with your doctor.
