    Question

My daughter is just 12 - not sexually active - plays soccer all the time-has NOT had her period and just started to develop last year and her breasts are still tiny - but has had a yellow (but not odorous) discharge in her panties for about 2 weeks. Is this normal or should we visit her Dr.? She isn't itchy or uncomfortable.

    Answer

It is perfectly normal and just signals that she is cycling - hormonally and her body is preparing for her period. It could last a short while or a year or so, everyone is different. You may want to do two things: 1) print a calendar and keep track of any headaches, and PMS symptoms - you may see a pattern; and 2) make her a period pack to keep in her locker or backpack in case her period starts (http://www.pamf.org:80/preteen/parents/newmoon.html) Hug her - your little girl is growing up!
