Question
I instant message online very frequently and my mother is concerned that i have repetitive motion injury because i had a slight pain in my wrist for about an hour. This hasn't occurred again or more than once. Is there any truth to her guess?
Answer
You may have had a brief symptom in your wrist reflective of a repetitive motion injury, but by definition it should be repetitive and unyielding to routine measures (rest, anti-inflammatories/aspirin-Advil, ice). Should it recur with increasing frequency, then these and other measures (such as rearranging the computer station, etc.) can be called into play.
