    Question

I have this feeling inside of me. I have done some very bad things in the past. I feel I cannot tell my mom for she might be disappointed. I am on lexapro 10 mg for depression. We have tried counseling but we always had to be there at 7 p.m. and can't find another date to go. Please help me, I feel alone.

    Answer

There are several ways you might find a counselor who is more available than the one you saw before. You could start by asking the doctor who prescribed Lexapro, who probably knows a bit about how you are feeling, to refer you to someone for talk therapy. A counselor at school would be another option, either as someone to talk to directly, or as a source for referrals. If you have access to the Internet, you could search for adolescent therapists in your area.

While you are looking for someone, it is important for you to know that the thought that you have done things that are too bad to reveal is often a symptom of depression. It is hard to be realistic about yourself when you are feeling sad, empty and alone. Just talking to another person may put things in better perspective. Finally, if you ever have thoughts of harming yourself, there are suicide hotlines that will welcome your call at any hour, including this one: 1-800-784-2433 (1-800-Suicide)

I hope that you find a counselor soon whom you can trust and feel comfortable around.
