    Question

I have annual paps and they always come out normal. However, I have constant discharge. My M.D. said it was due to my birth control, but I have been off birth control for over a year. I have heard you can try over-the-counter yeast pills. Will that help minimize the amount of discharge at all?

    Answer

If your discharge is your body's normal discharge, the yeast pills won't help.

The amount of discharge people have varies from one person to the next. It is usually heavier when we are teenagers and gets lighter in our 20s and 30s. If your discharge is clear to light yellow and does not smell bad or cause you to itch then it is probably your normal discharge.

There is no way to change what your body wants to do -- it would be like trying to make your hair grow slower -- that just isn't possible. Some women with heavier discharge will wear panty liners and change them during the day.
