    Question

I've been told that I have herpes. My doctor gave me valtrex to take. And my current boyfriend likes to have oral sex on me. Can he still perform oral sex on me? Or is it better for him to stop?

    Answer

You should definitely avoid oral sex if there are any herpetic lesions (blisters or vesicles) that can be seen. Sometimes you can still shed virus without any obvious lesions. This risk can be diminished by use of suppressive therapy with valtrex or acyclovir. Discuss this option with your doctor.
