    Question

Can you get crabs if you shave and do not have pubic hair?

    Answer

Crabs is the common name for Pedicularis pubis or pubic lice. The preferred area for the lice is the pubic area but they can also be found in the axilla (underarm) or on chest hair in men. This particular species is different from the common head lice. Lice cling to the base of the hair and this is where the female lays her eggs. If you had the infection and it was not treated then shaving the area would not eradicate the lice entirely. The primary symptom is itching. Please be evaluated by your physician for an accurate diagnosis. Pedicularis pubis is highly infective and is transmitted through sexual contact.
