Question
I am 17 years old and I have dry flaky skin on the head of my penis. It becomes raw if rubbed. I do not frequently masturbate, and masturbation is not the cause for this dry raw skin. I have abstained from masturbating for 2 weeks and the head of my penis is still dry, flaky and raw. What are some ways to get my penis back to normal. Should I put lotion on it? Is there anything else I can do that does not involve a doctor. ps. I am a virgin.
Answer
There is information I don't have that makes it very hard to advise you over the internet. I don't know if you are circumcised, how long this has been present, how extensive the rash is, if there are other areas of skin that are irritated. Dry skin that becomes raw with rubbing could be a mild fungal rash, it could be irritation due to you underwear, it could be an atopic dermatitis.
As much as I would like to advise a simple treatment, responsible health care providers understand the need for a careful history and exam, BEFORE coming to a conclusion. As simple as it might seem to be there are a number of problems that can cause dry skin and you deserve a careful exam and treatment.
Please see you doctor and discuss it with him or her.
