Question
Just last night I had sex with my girlfriend and it hurt for her, but she didn't bleed. We think her hymen was broken when she was in cheerleading. Also, she has a pain that still is there, even this morning. Is this because of the tissue in the vagina stretching, and is there any way to relieve the pain? How long on average does it take for the pain to go away? Also, her emotions are all mixed up. We both love each other very much. Are the mixed emotions common?
Answer
The pain will probably take 1 - 2 days to go away, and if it is longer, she should see a doctor. The mixed emotions suggest she needs a little more time before being sexually active. Give her space and become better friends - and see if her emotions settle down. If not, maybe she needs to find a counselor or adult she trusts to talk about things with.
Remember that if you are now sexually active she needs an exam and to start a reliable method of birth control in addition to using condoms to protect against sexually trasnmitted infection. Sex is complicated!
