    Question

My son is 13 and a half, and has not grown for the past 2 years (barely). He is 4'9 and weight 70 lbs. He does well in school, but is very concerned about his size. He eats normally and exercises. I am 5'3 and my husband is 6'. My family and my husband's are tall. My son was 21" at birth. Is there any hope for him to be taller, at least his Dad's size? My brother is 6'4". thank you

    Answer

I strongly encourage you to speak to your Pediatrician as soon as possible about your important concerns. His weight and length measurements are currently both below the fifth percentile for his age. His physician should perform a full physical exam to assess what stage of puberty your son is in and to review his growth charts. This will allow your son's doctor to make a more accurate clinical assessment of his growth potential and whether or not further studies are indicated.
