    Question

I am currently on the Depo shot and want to switch to the pill. When can I make the switch? Do I have to wait until I have a period after getting off Depo before starting the pill? Also, do I have to start taking the pill during my menstrual cycle for it to be effective?

    Answer

You can start the birth control pill after the 3 months since your last depoprovera shot to keep an effective birth control method continuously. You do not need to wait for your menses because with depoprovera use your periods may be irregular at first. I recommend you discuss this matter further with your primary physician or gynecologist.
