Question
My boyfriend and I have been together for nearly 17 months, now. He was sworn into the military on June 1st, and despite his recruiter's suggestions to do active duty, he chose to join the reserves for us. I believe what we have together may be something like true love, but I'm having trouble coping with his imminent departure for boot camp. I was hoping someone may have some advice for me on how to stay strong while he's away.
Answer
"Something like true love," will always be exactly that. You have to trust yourself and him, and if you both get through this, it is more likely to be true love, and stronger. Part of healthy relationships is being OK when you are apart, and having a life that does not depend on the other person, but is just made sweeter by his or her presence!
This is a great opportunity for you to grow as an individual, and learn to be happy with yourself - and not dependent on him. Good luck!
