Question
I am 17 years old. I just recieved my 2nd injection of Depo Provera.
Even though I am on birth control my boyfriend and I always use a condom.
Today, the unthinkable happened, and the condom broke.
He did ejaculate inside my vagina and I am overcome with fear and regret.
I love my boyfriend very much and he is very comforting and understanding, but I still am very scared.
I am definitely not ready for a pregnancy and I fear disappointing my family more than anything.
I was wondering if I should get a prescription for Plan B, even though Depo is said to be 99.7% effective.
PLEASE REPLY ASAP.
Answer
You should be covered for birth control since your shot is current, so take a deep breath! You should also be very proud of yourself for using the shot and condoms regularly - to prevent disease.
The next time you are seen by a doctor you may want to tell her the condom broke and be screened for sexually transmitted infections though.
Now, if the condom broke chances are good you are not using them correctly, so please review the steps on this site (http://www.pamf.org/teen/sex/birthcontrol/howto.html) and make sure that there is enough of a water-based lubricant (like KY) - a drop inside and a drop outside of the condom, to reduce friction.
