Question
i am 16 years old. recently i got this bump on the skin near my vagina, like an inch above the outside lip on the skin. it was there for about a month. it started really small, but then got big (like nickel size) and squishy, and had a dark blueish black tint to it, wasn't painful. finally, i just popped it, and blood just gushed and squirted out of it. i know i don't have an std, because i've never had sex. and i've had fairly small ones like this before, but none ever big like this one. what is this? please help.
Answer
It is most likely a small pimple-like lesion or abscess. These types of "bumps" are very common in the genital and buttock areas, especially where the underwear rubs. Keeping the underwear area clean and dry is a good first step to avoiding these bumps. Try to wear loose fitting clothing. If you find one of these bumps, apply warm compresses (such as a washcloth with really warm water on it) to the area for 10 minute periods a few times per day; this is usually enough to allow your body to heal it on its own. If it worsens, becomes more red or painful, then see your doctor.
