For over 10 years, teens have been asking us questions on every topic imaginable. While we are no longer taking new questions, we have a wealth of information we would like to share with teenagers.

Question
I am 16 years of age. i live with my parents. do i need permission from my parents to go to the doctor by myself? they dont know some things about me.
Answer
No, I do not think they "need" to know in WA, but I always encourage people to talk with parents because most parents really care and want to know more about their kids.
I will caution you that sometimes even if you make the appointment and the doctor does not tell, parents might get something from their insurance company when services are provided, so sometimes it is best for teens who do not want parents to know to go to Planned Parenthood.
