Question
Pls give me a suggestion or idea about Minera and Para GardT380 IUD. I have no idea which one is better.
Thanks
Answer
The two types of IUDs that are available are different in material, side effects and how long they last. The Paraguard IUD contains copper and last for 10 years (international studies have demonstrated that can leave in place up to 12 years). This IUD is often associated with heavier menses and sometimes more cramping. The Mirena IUD contains progesterone which is locally secreted to the uterus. Minimal amounts of progesterone is absorbed systemically and therefore the patient should have no systemic side effects (good for patients who do not tolerate ocps). The Mirena IUD last for 5 years and often associated with lighter menses and less cramping over time. With both IUDs, after insertion for the first 3-4 months, the patients may experience intermenstrual spotting and occasional cramping until the uterus becomes accustomed to the IUD.
