    Question

How long does it take for a women to have a reaction after catching trichomonds.

    Answer

An infection with trichomonas can be completely asymptomatic. A green-yellow frothy discharge occurs in 10 - 30 % of women infected. Other symptoms include burning, itching, discomfort with urination, urinary frequency and painful intercourse. Some women experience bleeding after intercourse as well. Symptoms can occur as early as 5 - 7 days after exposure or as noted above some women may not have any symptoms and be infected for prolonged periods. There can be complications associated with trichomonas infection including infertility, premature rupture of membrane resulting in preterm delivery. Infection with trichomonas can cause a marked inflammatory response making it easier to contract HIV or other STDs if exposed. Therefore it is important to be examined and tested for trichomonas as well as all sexually transmitted diseases and to receive appropriate treatment.
