    Question

Me and my girlfriend had sex and although we were very careful, the condom riped. Immediately we bought the day-after pills and she took them like the doctor advised her. The next day she started bleeding slightly for about 4-5 hours after which it stopped. My question is, how effective are these pills and can we relax knowing that she will not get pregnant? Thank you....

    Answer

I am sorry that even taking precautions this experience has been traumatic. Taken as directed, Plan B is very effective, and you can likely relax, but that said, she should see a doctor and start on a more reliable method of birth control, and both of you should continue to practice with condoms, making sure there is enough lubrication to avoid ripping. Good luck.
