    Question

I had a colposcopy done. A few days later I had intense bleeding where my pads were being soaked like one per minute. At one point I took a shower and I sneezed, and suddenly it was this strange feeling from inside and a huge red bag came out of me. I touched it a little and it was like membranous and intact and stretchy. I freaked out and actually threw it into the trash. I did go to the doctor for the bleeding but I didn't mention this to them because I was so scared about my bleeding. The doctor in the ER stopped the bleeding and stoppered me up with an oversized tampon and sent me home. What was this ball of membrane that came out of me???

    Answer

This "red bag" was probably a large blood clot. When you sit or lie down for a while the blood pools in your vagina and can collect into a blood clot. After colposcopy it is common to bleed from biopsies done. Sounds like your bleeding was much more than a normal menstrual-like flow. It was good that you went to ER to make sure everything was ok.
