    Question

i am 17 years old and i am not sexually active. But a few days ago i have been experiencing burning pain after urinating. I seem to be urinating more often, and sometimes after urinating it takes a little while for the pain to go away. I don't know what this could be. I am not comfortable in telling my parents about it, so what do you suggest i do?

    Answer

Sorry for the delay. Your symptoms are most suggestive of a bladder infection. Drink moderate fluids/water and see if you can clear it that way. if not then you will need to talk to your doctor and take antibiotics (one dose sometimes is enough to clear the infection but most commonly we recommend a 3 day course of antibiotics). In general drink moderate water (6 large glasses) daily, urinate freely (avoid holding off urinating when you have a full bladder), urinate immediately after sexual intercourse.
