Question
I'm at a loss on what to do. I fell in love with my best friend. I've known him for 5 years..but the only problem is that he is gay. So i know i cant have him but i cant help how i feel about him! so what do i do about falling in love for him?
Answer
Dear Teen: Those "falling in love" feelings can be very powerful and I understand your distress. You need to re-think this one however, and enjoy the friendship which could be very satisfying for what it is. The fact that you developed love feelings for him also means that it can happen again with someone who is more available to you for a romantic relationship. You can still have a great guy "friend" to be there for you and in high school friendship is often the most lasting relationship.
