    Question

I am 14. I have just recently started my periods. I can see a piece of skin, like a bridge, over the hole where my menstrual blood passes through (sex hole). I believe it?s a hymen. When I pull out my tampon my hymen goes over it and I have to move it out of the way so can take out the tampon and so I am not pulling on my hymen-it hurts. I suppose it is quite a thick piece of skin acting as a bridge. I have tried fingering myself to break it but it just hurts. I don?t want to damage my body. When I have sex maybe soon, will it rip and fall off? When anything rips it doesn?t rip both ends, it rips at one end and dangle or even worse, not rip at all. Help me? Will I have to have an operation to cut it ALL off? I?m worried. when I?m 16 I hope by then I would?ve spoken to my mum about it, but I will go to the nurse and talk to her. PLEASE WRITE BACK X

    Answer

Congrats on starting your period. I do not think you need to worry about your hymen, for most people it does not require surgery and is not a problem. If you are concerned, you can see the nurse or doctor.
