    Question

I heard from a friend that when you first start taking birth control it takes 3 months for the pill to become active against preventing pregancy. Is this true?? Or can I start having sex right away after I start the first pill pack?

    Answer

We usually recommend using condoms in addition to the pill for at leat one month, but remember BC pills do not protect you from sexually transmitted infections, so using condoms with the pill is a good plan. Remember to take the pills every day and at the same time each day.
