    Question

My sister is 16 and she has HPV cancer and she's pregnant. What is the likelihood that the baby will be infected as well? What birth defects can become of this if any? If you could help me i would really apreciate it, thank you.

    Answer

HPV is a virus we usually think of as causing warts in the genital area, and also the cause of cervical cancer. The virus can be spread to the baby on passing through the birth canal, but most of the time there is no serious problem for the baby from this. Hope your sister is getting appropriate treatment and advice and that all goes well for mom and baby.
