    Question

I may have an eating disorder. I exercize compulsively and am ocd but i am petrified to talk to my doctor about it mainly because i dont want my parents to know. Can i talk to my doctor without worrying?

    Answer

Yes, I see that you are over 18 so you have adult rights. However, make it clear to you doctor BEFORE you discuss this that she/he understands that you do not want this discussed with your parents. If the doctor knows you parents well this will prevent an accidental slip. Getting early treatment is a wise idea. Please discuss the ocd issues too as they are related. Also ask you doctor how they will bill the appointment as some billing codes disclose information even when the session is confidential. Keep up the effort of getting the help you need!
