hi, i live in Florida and im 15. my mom wants to take me to the gyno to see if im a virgin. 1've had sex twice, months ago! i really dont want to tell her yet. will the doctor tell her or will it stay confidential? is there anyway i can keep her from knowing?
Answer
I would assume that your state protects your right to confidential care, but my advice is to call the office of the doctor your mom plans to take you to (without giving your name) and ask very clearly, whether the doctor will talk to your mom about your sexual activity and whether s/he would do a check for virginity without your consent.
Then ask, if your mom makes an appointment, if the doctor would ask her to stay in the waiting room, which is appropriate for the mom of a 15 year old, unless you ask her to come in.
Planned Parenthood is your best bet for confidential reproductive health services if you remain sexually active.
