    Question

my daughter had her tonsils out in january this year and the taste buds seem to have gotten damaged. all she can taste is a bitter taste on everything she eats. Will this get better or is there any thing she can do? She is 40 years old.

    Answer

Hello, Removal of the tonsils should not affect her taste buds and in fact, if both the tonsils and adenoids were removed, the improvement in the chronic upper airway obstruction may increase the taste of food due to relief of nasal congestion. However, if this remains a problem, you should speak with the otolaryngologist/head and neck surgeon.
