    Question

where do i recommend my friend, who has a 17 yr. old with autism, psychosis, an I.Q. of 141, who is very violent at times, a kind of residential place? thanks so much

    Answer

Dear Teen: In order to get into a residential treatment program the autistic 17 year old needs an evaluation to see what his needs are. You could tell your friend to talk to school personnel or the family physician to see what would be recommended. The parents would need to ask for help and follow up with professionals who could find the appropriate treatment center or school. If this young man is very violent, it is critical that they get some help in dealing with his behavior.
