Question

hi, i have a friend who is 20 yrs old and she has been pregnant about 6 times. her first time she had a miscarriage i think, and the second she had a little girl who's living. the other times she had abortions. she is now pregnant with twins, which are in her tubes i think. and she is planning to have another abortion. by the way she's allergic to latex and doesnt have the money for the kind she needs. but cant she die or have body complications if she keeps having these abortions?

Answer

Generally it is not a good for anyone to have repetitive abortions because a patient could have possible complications from having multiple D & C's (abortions). Complications could range from anesthesia complications, infection, possible infertility from Asherman's syndrome (where the endometrial cavity becomes scarred together and prevents lining from proliferating -- patients usually complain of having no menses for several months), etc. We would recommend patients to have an effective birth control method instead of relying on abortions.

If this woman that you are talking about really has a pregnancy in her tubes (which is called an 'ectopic pregnancy') she should have this treated immediately because she is at risk for complications, such as hemorrhaging internally if ectopic ruptures.
