    Question

I'm 18 years old and I just had sex with my boyfriend for the first time not too long ago. We have used a condom every time and I am on birth control, Yaz. I just wanted to make sure that I am protected enough from any STD's and pregnancy. I just want to be 100% safe.

    Answer

Congratulations - you are a perfect dual user - which means you are protecting yourself from pregnancy and most sexually transmitted infections.

Here is the bummer though - we call it safer sex, because no sex is 100% safe. The effectiveness of the condom requires that it is used correctly, and there are some sexually transmitted infections that can be transmitted skin-to-skin, where a condom does not cover. So, that said, you are doing everything you can to be safe, and if you are both monogamous, you should be good. Remember to get tested for stds when you have your annual pap test.
