    Question

I have been experiencing mid-cycle, stringy, clear, pink-brown discharge. It is odourless and sometimes when I stand up I gush. I am not sexually active. This has been happening for some time now.

Also I have extremely heavy periods. Sometimes I have clots the size of my palm. I have to change pads every hour or so and this can be extremely inconvenient. Is this normal? Why do I have so much discharge and why the heavy period?

    Answer

Menses can vary in flow from time to time, but if you continue to have very heavy bleeding and large clots during your menses, you should see your doctor about this. If the bleeding becomes heavy every month, you can become anemic. Usually going on ocps can help decrease the flow of your menses and regulate them. The discharge you are experiencing mid-cycle may be due to small amount of intermenstrual spotting. Ocps can again help regulate these symptoms.
