Brown discharge - age 13
Posted on: 05/27/2008
Question
I am 13 years old, i have not gotten my period yet, and am not sexually active. On Saturday, i went to the beach, later that day, and night, i had a brown discharge from the vagina. the discharge keeps coming. Today, Monday, the discharge was heavier, thicker, and dark brown. When i wipe, there is sometimes a little blood. What do i do? and what is it? very nervous!
Answer
Well I think congratulations is in order - I think you are having your first period! I vote the it will slow down and stop within the week. Keep track on a calendar and if you have another period or more brown discharge, write it down, and see if it is a cycle. Sometimes periods start and are regular, every 28 dyas or so, and sometimes they aren't.
I hope you have a female relative you can talk to and celebrate becoming a woman! Look here for some ways to be prepared: www.pamf.org/preteen/parents/newmoon.html.
