Question

Parents divorced since I was 9. Been living with my mom for about a year, because my father's girlfriend was horrible to my siblings and me, and my father ingored what we told him about her. My mother never shows her emotions to me, and treats the family to resturaunts when I am not there. My father doesn't talk to me anymore, and he constanly tells me, when I do talk to him, all the things my siblings do, and everything he is going to do for them. Do my parents not care for me anymore?

Answer

I am so sorry that you feel this way, and that your parents cannot put your needs and feelings in front of their own. It is sad, but sometimes when couples divorce, they are so busy worrying about their own hurt feelings that they do not remember that every person in the family experiences loss, grief, sadness, and rejection.

Please find a counselor you can talk to, because you are worth it, and need to know you are loved, even if your parents are too busy dealing with their own feelings of rejection and pain. Good luck!
