Question

what causes the back of my tongue to feel swollen with little bumps? The doctor said it was inflamed lymph tissue.

Answer

This could be from any kind of infection, inflammation or injury in your mouth. The lymph tissue in the back of your tongue has the same function as your tonsils and adenoids. It will get better with time, but you've done the right thing by checking with your doctor. If it doesn't get better, see your doctor again.
